RIPPLE

The final incense holder balances sustainable materiality with quiet elegance, turning discarded shells into a mindful object that anchors ritual and space, each angle rendered to convey its sculptural presence and meditative charm.

Inspired by the millions of tons of eggshell waste generated each year—nearly 7.2 million metric tons globally from eggshells alone—this design repurposes a major biowaste stream into something meaningful rather than landfill-bound.

A sustainable incense holder crafted from a bio-material blend of eggshells and gelatin, transforming everyday waste into functional art. Using the Materiom Library, this incense holder is designed to biodegrade naturally. This, therefore, offers a smooth, stone-like texture while maintaining structural strength. Merging sensory ritual with circular design, Ripple redefines home fragrance through Eco-conscious craftsmanship and material innovation.

Through cleaning, crushing, blending eggshells with gelatin, and curing in an silicone cast of an SLS model, the waste is transformed into a warm, cohesive bio-material.

The natural texture and subtle matte finish of eggshells evoke the calming, tactile quality of ceramics, grounding the piece in serenity, this therefore dictating the form of the product.
